Rock Island
HO, N, S and O Scale Passenger Car Sides. Our sides are done with a white styrene outer side and a crystal clear plastic inner side that are to be glued together. The clear inner side is also used for window glazing. All sides are undecorated and require a core kit (roof, floor, ends) to make a car shell, or the use of a donor car, unless otherwise indicated. The diagrams shown are three or four colors: white lines are the outlines of the sides and doors (if the kit comes with separate doors), green lines are generally window openings, red and blue lines are details cut into the sides. Descriptions of the cars are of the prototype and usually tell the builder, number of cars made, the original owning railroad, and disposition of the cars. These descriptions are taken from the "Pullman-Standard Library" and the "Passenger Car Library" by RPC Publications, and are used with permission. All sides listed as fluted include fluting in the kit.

This Rock Island Business Car was originally a 4-4-2 Sleeper that was converted by Auto Liner in 1972. The car was painted bright red with yellow lettering and lat was repainted blue. The kit includes the rear window an door piece and a piece for the rear deck. No other parts are included.

This car was converted from a coach in 1953. The observation platform was placed where the vestibule had been. It was originally named "Lake Michigan." Between '65 and '67, the below-the-window fluting was replaced with stainless steel panels. Since our fluting is an add-on part, the car may be modeled either way. The kit includes a piece for the end windows and door. No other parts are included.

These cars were delivered to Rock Island in late '37 for use on various "Rocket" articulated trainsets. The "Kansas City," "Rocket" and "Texas" Rockets were 3 car sets with one Baggage-Dinet(#969), one 76 Seat Coach (#970) and one Observation Parlor Coach. The "Peoria" and "Des Moines" Rockets were four car trainsets that included a 60 Seat Coach (#971). Disposition of the cars is not known.

These 2 cars were delivered in late '39 for use on the "Rocky Mountain Rocket." They were scrapped in '67.

These cars were among the most favored cars of railroads across the country. Most were delivered in the late '30's to late 40's. They were the "Imperial" series.

These 2 cars were delivered in '39 for use on the "Rocky Mountain Rocket." Both cars were scrapped in '67.

These 2 cars were delivered in 10/39 for use on the "Rocky Mountain Rocket." Named "Thunder Mountain" and "Phantom Valley," they were converted to mid-train service by mounting a diaphragm on the round end with sheet metal. Phantom Valley was sold to a private owner in '65 and Thunder Mountain was sold to Joliet Railway equipment in '68.

These 4 cars were delivered in '40 for use on the "Choctaw Rocket" and "Rocky Mountain Rocket." Named "Forest Canyon, Thompson Canyon, Seminole and Wewoka," all were scrapped in '67.

These 116 cars served on various roads and were one of the more popular of the pre-war sleepers. Most were built in the early '40's.
