#96808 ACL/FEC Budd Fluted Side Baggage Dormitory Coach

The first set of 4 cars (2 ACL/2 FEC) was delivered in 11/39 to Atlantic Coast Line and Florida East Coach for use on the "Champion," the "Dixie Flagler" and the "Henry M Flagler." The ACL cars were numbered 101 and 102. FEC's cars were named "Stuart" and "New Smyrna." About a year later, ACL ordered 3 more identical cars for the same service and numbered them 102 to 104. Then in 4/47 ACL ordered 3 more cars, numbered 105 to 107 and FEC added "Banana River". The dormitory space was used by Dining and Lounge car crew plus the Steward. The 22 Coach seats were to comply with Jim Crow laws in Southern states. The only difference in the last 3 cars was the elimination of the baggage area bathroom window (see #96811).
